Mindfulness Practice: Sounds of Stormy Weather
For those facing stormy weather or any kind of natural disaster— approach it as an opportunity to practice mindfulness by focusing your attention on sounds. They arise and pass, so you can experience the insight of impermanence. Just listen, do not scan for sounds - wait for them. Be a satellite dish. At the beginning, you will likely name the sounds. Then allow this impulse to relax. What remains is awareness of the presence or absence of sounds—the ebb and flow of nature. How might this mirror the weather patterns within you? Thoughts come and then they go. Emotions arise and then pass. This is a wake-up exercise for your attention. However it happens - with names, without names - just let it happen. Do not try to accomplish anything. Just listen.
