Art of Living Slowly

From a peaceful center we can respond instead of react.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is mind training that improves mental focus, clarity, efficiency, self-awareness, creativity, memory, and productivity. Mindfulness training improves mood, reduces stress, and improves the immune system.

Mindfulness teachings grow out of an alliance between Western scientists and experienced practitioners of ancient meditation traditions.  This partnership has contributed to the most ground-breaking research to date on the brain and our understanding of how the human mind works.  The wisdom derived from this research sheds light on the highly habitual nature of the human brain and the overuse, by most people, of the most primitive brain regions.

With the use of sophisticated brain scanning technology, neuroscientists discovered that certain styles of meditation could improve brain function as well as mental health.  Essentially, meditation changes the brain in positive and permanent ways.  After only 8 weeks of daily meditation, subjects in the study reported an improvement in mental outlook, focus, concentration and mood.

This research trajectory has informed the growing curriculum of mindfulness based approaches to stress reduction, pain management, attention-deficit, addiction, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and more.
